Chapter 13 — Past Client Referral System — Turn Happy Clients Into Ambassadors

Prompt 38 Referral Thank-You Note

A referral you don't thank quietly stops coming. Generic thank-yous (“thanks for thinking of me!”) do nothing; the note that names what they did does. This prompt drafts it: what exactly the client said to the referral, what happened as a result, and what the photographer did about it — a print credit, a reply the referrer can see, a genuine acknowledgment. A wedding photographer who sends this makes the next referral feel like a favor worth repeating, which is the engine the whole system runs on. It takes two minutes and pays in couples for years.

Context/Tips
  • Send immediately when the referral comes in.
  • This is pure gratitude, separate from any formal referral program.
Expected Outcome

A thank-you that deepens the relationship and makes them want to refer you again.

The Prompt
Using the Studio Voice Blueprint and Linguistic Filter from Chapter 1, a past client just referred a new couple to me.

- My past client (referrer): [NAME]
- The couple they referred: [NAMES — if known]
- How they referred me: [E.G., "tagged me in an Instagram story" / "forwarded my inquiry email"]
- The referred couple's wedding date: [DATE IF KNOWN — or "date TBD"]

Write a genuine, heartfelt thank-you note that:
- Thanks them by name for the specific referral
- Describes what the referral means emotionally
- Reassures them their friend is in good hands
- Reinforces the relationship
- Keeps it short

Apply the Linguistic Filter. Do NOT offer a discount or referral incentive. Do NOT make it about getting more referrals. 75 words max.
